Rebalda is a remote village in the Solovki Archipelago in the White Sea. Every summer, two dozen lads and their families go there to harvest sea lettuce. For almost a hundred years, the Arkhangelsk Seaweed Combine has been equipping this seasonal expedition by recruiting former convicts to harvest this raw material. Surrounded by forest and sea, they live in their “concentrated” world according to their own laws. Defying the system and society, they prove that, despite all the hazards of life, they are capable of retaining ingenuousness, kindness and faith in people.
