Plot synopsis
1902 in Nizhny Novgorod. Jakov Sverdlov, a young revolutionary, buys, with Gorky's help, a press he needs for clandestine printing. In 1905, he was in the Urals, where he led agitprop, calling on workers to an armed revolt against tsarism. He was arrested, imprisoned, and then sent to Siberian camps. In 1917, tsarism was overthrown, and Sverdlov held an important political position. He came to Nizhny Novgorod, where he fought against the chairman of the Party Committee, Mironov, and other Trotskyists. Ill, he remained a member of the government until his death. Lenin delivered his eulogy at the 8th Party Congress.
