Plot synopsis
The city of Kirov is located 360 km southwest of Moscow. This is where the largest provincial hospital in the Kaluga region is located, the only one for 1000 square kilometers in this central part of Russia. The hospital is overcrowded. The work of a rural surgeon has its own specificities. He is also a urologist, traumatologist and neurosurgeon. Of course, he deals with the abdomen, thorax, blood vessels, etc. Here, we fight for the life of a patient even if his life expectancy does not exceed one day. Many would be physically and mentally worn out. But these people continue to do their job. In spite of everything. And they have a solid succession: young colleagues “who have not left” and “passing through”. What motivates them? Professionalism, compassion, a sense of duty… or are they simply among those who cannot do otherwise?
