In 1862, the Hungarian scholar Armin Vambéry, an ethnographer and orientalist, undertook a trip to Bukhara to research the origins of the Hungarians. Such a stay in the city was forbidden to Europeans. However, Mirzo, the representative of the Emir of Bukhara, helped the traveler to visit the palaces and mosques of the "Sacred Bukhara", as well as ancient cultural sites and to use the Emir's library. His compatriots understood that it is essential to research on the ground what brings the West closer to the East.
