This film is based on events that took place in the Soviet Union in 1988, related to the establishment of a treaty with the American authorities on the destruction of short- and medium-range missiles. It also deals with other events of 1966, concerning the creation and testing of missiles, in the presence of the President of the French Republic C. De Gaulle. The main thread of the film is the story of the physicist Anatoly Grigorevich Istratov, author of a technical monograph entitled "Theory of the combustion of aluminum". Without this fundamental discovery, described in the monograph, no missile would have succeeded in flying.
