Katerina, who has just been released from prison, tries to get a job as a cook's assistant in an orphanage for mentally ill children. She is initially refused, and she leaves her resume with her photograph on the windowsill. It is there that Vanya, an autistic child who is made fun of by the other children, finds her. Vanya tells everyone that she is his mother. When, due to the lack of other candidates, the director of the institution calls the job seeker back, it is two lonely and deeply unhappy beings (Vania and Katerina) who adopt each other, but unfortunately, without legal right to adoption due to Katerina's stay in prison.
