Plot synopsis
The film is about one of the indigenous peoples of Russia: the Teleuts. They are a Turkic-speaking people who live in their historical territory in the Kemerovo region in the south of Western Siberia. There are 2,500 people left, but they have retained aspects of their traditional way of life. While most ethnographic films rely on interviews with ethnographers and representatives of the older generation, "The Song of the Teleuts" is about the younger generation of Teleuts. To what extent do they consider themselves to be a separate ethnic group? What do they know about their ancestors, culture and habits? What is their life like in a globalized world?
