Artyom Chagin, one of the countless "conquerors" of Moscow, receives the news of the death of his father, who abandoned them with his mother when he was still a child. The death of his father does not affect Artyom in any way, but wanting to solve material problems by selling the house left by his father, he goes to his hometown of Sovetsk. There he unexpectedly meets his father's new family - his wife and six-year-old son, behind whom is a strong Uzbek diaspora. Trying to solve the problem of selling the house, Chagin enlists a local bandit, a longtime acquaintance of her father, to fight the diaspora. The conflict develops like a snowball, turning into a violent confrontation. At the center of it all is Artyom, who has lost control of what is going on, and the hapless widow who just wants to bury her husband.
