Large format film. 1920 is the Civil War in Russia. In western Ukraine, the Batka Kikot gang is raging. At this time, the commissioner Ivan Ostrovoy, sent by GoubCheK to destroy Kikot, arrives in the village of Sukhovka at the deputy head of the people's militia of the Levchenko district. Having met Ostrovoy in disbelief, Levchenko is forced to obey the order. Ostrovoy frees two bandits captured by Levchenko and disappears. Soon he appears in the Kikot gang, where he says he is Baron Wrangel's messenger.
