Plot synopsis
100 years of Russian jazz history in one groundbreaking documentary movie. Through the stories of the 20’s and 30’s Russian jazz pioneers into the infamous saxophones straightening era of the 40’s, then the Russian jazz resurrection in the 50’s, and the genre’s transformation from an underground subculture to a socially respected branch of performance arts by the 70’s; this is how the movie timeline is set. the disintegration of the soviet regime in 1991 meant yet another trial for the Russian jazz community, as the music had to survive economically in the nascent free market, which led to the return of several prominent soviet émigré jazz artists to their native country, and to a new ascent of Russian jazz in the 21st century.
