Belarus is in the flames of the Great Patriotic War. When Sattar brings his wounded friend to his native village after wandering through the forests, the fascists are already there. His parents hide both of them in the house. Here Sattar meets Marina. Suddenly Hitlerites appear and without finding soldiers take away Mikola's father. To save him, the Uzbek boy gives himself into the hands of the fascists. But it is too late - Mikola's father has already been shot, the prisoners are sent behind barbed wire. Having escaped from the camp, Sattar became a famous partisan called Kazbek. After the war he comes to a Belarusian village and learns from Mikola that Marina lives in a neighbouring village. Sattar meets her, but it is a different Marina - so war has warped her. Sattar leaves with bitterness in his heart, but he will never forget the song about love and war that he heard in Belorussia during those fiery years.
