Plot synopsis

The year that marked the turn of the first quarter of the turbulent 20th century turned out to be so difficult that deep despair gripped almost all, even diametrically opposed in social status, groups of Soviet citizens. The number of suicides in Leningrad exceeded previous figures and amounted to 10 to 15 cases daily.
The reasons can be very different. The staunch communists could not stand the realities of the NEP. The unemployed saw no way out of their deep poverty. Demobilized Red Army soldiers, among whom suicides were especially common, could not find their niche in society after the end of the civil war.
Despite the prevailing atmosphere of hopelessness, the death of Sergei Yesenin at the very end of that terrible year was a real tragedy. The authors of the film tell in detail about the last year of the great poet's life, about the circumstances that led Yesenin to take that fatal step.
