Plot synopsis

The next series is dedicated to 1953 and Lavrenty Pavlovich Beria (March 17 (29), 1899 — December 23 (?) 1953) — a Soviet statesman and political figure. Beria was part of Stalin's inner circle. As head of the NKVD (1938-1945), he participated in Stalin's repressions, and at the same time, he rehabilitated those illegally repressed. He supervised a number of key sectors of the defense industry, including all developments related to the creation of nuclear weapons.
After Stalin's death, his political role increased sharply, but already in June 1953, Beria was arrested on charges of espionage and conspiracy to seize power. He was executed by order of the Special Judicial Presence of the Supreme Court of the USSR in December 1953 (there is a version by his son, Sergo Beria, that his father was killed immediately after or during his arrest in June 1953, presumably refuted by documents contained in Beria's case, which is still classified, in particular interrogation protocols and notes to Malenkov).
