Plot synopsis
The story takes place in the USSR in 1972. Liouba, an eight-year-old girl, is spending her vacation at a pioneer camp by the sea. Every day she goes to the shore and stares out at the blue expanse. She is waiting for her father, a submarine captain who has disappeared, and is convinced that he will one day return home. The other children and adults do not believe Liouba; they think she has made it all up and that she does not have a submarine captain for a father. Only her grandmother comforts and supports her granddaughter, even though she knows much more than the girl herself.
