First title of the film ‘Trial of the Road ’ (Проверка на дорогах) by Aleksei Guerman. The film was accused of denigrating the heroism of the people and sympathising with prisoners and police officers. Commander Ivan was judged to be anything but heroic and uninspiring. After fifteen years ‘on the shelf’, the film was released in 1986 under the title ‘Проверка на дорогах’. It was rightly hailed as a masterpiece and received the USSR State Prize.
