Elderly and perpetually dissatisfied, Zhora finds it difficult to care for his ailing wife, Lyalechka, but he has been carrying this burden for many years. After yet another fit of anger, Lyalechka disappears from the apartment without a trace. To find his wife, Zhora must forgive his daughter and son-in-law for their infidelity, which they did not actually commit.
