Plot synopsis
The film depicts Mongolia in the early 1930s, focusing in particular on the uprising that began in April 1932 at Khyalganat Monastery in Khövsgöl Aimag. The lamas and herders were dissatisfied with the closure of monasteries and the collectivisation of farms imposed by the Soviet authorities following the Mongolian Revolution of 1920.
Commentaries
Note that the film's non-release in 1936 may be linked to the decision by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union to close the Vostokfilm studio in August 1935.
