The Vakhsh Canal is under construction - one of the largest new buildings of the first five-year plan. Two Americans arrive here under contract, each of them has a specific goal. In addition to the Americans, engineer Urtabaev - a strong, bright man, one of the first representatives of the Tajik intelligentsia - also finds himself in the center of events of the complex construction. He faces various difficulties, but no matter how difficult it is for him, he always tries to solve them. On the festive day of the opening of the canal, an unforeseen situation occurs. Will Urtabaev and the canal builders be able to solve it?
