Based on Jack London's short story "South of the Slot" (San Francisco neighborhood south of Market Street –)
A chance encounter on a boulevard between sociology professor Drummond and a disabled unemployed man leads him to reflect on the real situation in the world of work.
In order to study the problems of this class, Drummond temporarily slips into the shoes of a worker under the name of Bill and gets hired in a factory... it is the first film role of Alla Tarasova (City Hall employee).
