Two business travelers, Laptev and Rusakov, staying at a hotel in a small town, are surprised by the care they received service workers. It turns out that the hotel administrator, a lazy bureaucrat, mistook the new guests for the capital's auditors. But it soon turns out that the real auditor has been living in one of the rooms for three days and has already begun checking the work of the hotel staff.
