In the clinic of a medical research institute, a seriously ill patient is admitted. The young doctor Falco considers that an urgent operation is necessary, while his chief Drouz considers that a treatment will be more effective and less risky. Professor Costenko undertakes the operation which goes well and justifies Falco's diagnosis.
At the same time, in the house of Shostenko, director of the institute, other events develop. His son Igor returns home after three years of absence. The difficult relations between Igor and his wife, an affair between Shostenko's daughter and Drouz form the plot of a second subject of the film.
