The shooting of this film began in June 2011, on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the failure of the August 1991 putsch. We wanted to remember what “freedom,” “dignity,” and “civil society” meant to Russians then and what they think about them now. Suddenly, we became witnesses and chroniclers of unprecedented political events on the eve of the Duma elections. The film provides a unique opportunity to see how the protest movement in Russia began.
