In the beginning was music… In mid-2013, the young composer from Vyborg Sergei Petrov completed work on an ambitious project: a symphonic poem on the theme: "History of a city: Vyborg". It is precisely the music of this poem that forms the basis of the subject of the eponymous film. The dramatic events of the great history of this small city are told by means of musical expression – by melody, tempo, movement. The film is filled not only with documentary scenes from newsreels and fragments of classical Soviet cinema, but also with passages shot on the subject. The film's director, Anna Vasilyeva, finds the points of contact between musical and cinematic art and creates, one might say, a new form of synthetic art: a living symphonic cinema, since the artistic conception of the work presupposes that this film is shown with musical accompaniment of a real symphony orchestra.
