Plot synopsis
Maly Theatre film-performance based on the eponymous play by Griboedov.
In the house of the gentleman Famusov comes Chatsky, returning from a long journey. He rushes to meet Famusov's daughter, Sofia, with whom he has been in love for a very long time. But Sofia receives him coldly. Her sentimental nature, nourished by French novels, is shocked by Chatsky's bitter and unworthy words. The girl's friends declare that Chatsky lacks intelligence, but he understands that Sofia has given her heart to Molchalin, who is nothing but a scoundrel.
