The drama Brother Deyan tells the story of a Serbian general who had to hide in different parts of the country for several years to escape justice. The house of old Slavko, on the edge of a mountain village, is one of the places where he took refuge. Bakuradze's film is based on the story of Serbian general Deyan Stanich. The director himself wrote the screenplay for the film.
