Plot synopsis
Grigory is fifty-five, but the thing he did
when he was young seems to burn him
from the inside. And now his greatest,
most burning desire is to atone for that
long-standing mortal sin in order to save
his immortal soul and receive forgiveness
from God. But trying to do this, Gregory
gets more and more confused. Thinking
that he is saving other people from the
fall, Gregory imposes his will on them and
only increases human sorrow. Trying to
make someone happy by force, he makes
people unhappy. He builds a temple,
a church, not realizing that this must be
done with a pure heart and thoughts.
