During the Second World War, Frenchman Leon Garros and Boris Vaganov fled from a Nazi concentration camp. Fifteen years later, a French journalist, deciding to pay a visit to a friend, comes to Moscow. The hero begins to report on the capital of the USSR. He admires the life of the Soviet people, but worries about Boris's absence. And the translator Nikolai is busy with his problems. On the eve of the wedding of his brother, a polar pilot (Valentin Zubkov), and singer Natasha (Tatyana Samoilova), the groom is called to the office - and he flies away, asking Nikolai to explain the situation to the bride. Natasha, not wanting to discuss the groom's act, is indignant and goes on tour to Zhdanov. And Boris Vaganov, the builder of the Bratsk hydroelectric power station, who is in Volgograd on business, is already going back to the Siberian construction site. Leon Garros, his French companions and Nikolai go in search of Boris - and after a series of funny adventures and a meeting of two friends, they go to Zhdanov to look for Natasha in order to reconcile her with the pilot.
