Historical-revolutionary drama. Based on the novel by Hamid Gulyam "Immortality".
Tashkent, 1923. A young security officer, Maksud Maksudov, arrived in the village of Khodjikent under the guise of a new teacher to investigate a crime: the day before, a school teacher (the second one) had been killed there. Maksud organized courses to eliminate illiteracy among adults and attracted women to study. Having fallen in love with the rich man's daughter, he was unable to save her from her brother's persecution. Death also overtook Maksud, who managed to take revenge.
