Plot synopsis
Casanova leads a high life and great debauchery in the City of the Doges. Pampered by women, pursued by his creditors, he ends up attracting the wrath of his husbands who conspire with the Council of Ten to have him arrested and condemned. Casanova chooses to flee, and reaches Russia via Austria. He introduces himself to the Court of Tsar Paul III under the identity of a French milliner, becomes a close friend of Catherine the Great and witnesses her takeover against her husband. But his demon of women leads to his disgrace with the new Tsarina and, to escape prison, he must flee again. Returning to Venice in the middle of carnival, he multiplies adventures in the midst of a joyous tumult. Pursued for having killed one of his rivals in a duel, the Duke of Bayreuth, he is arrested and imprisoned in the Plombs, the sinister Venetian prison. His friends organize his escape. Once again, he prepares to flee the city by boarding a ship, unless... a beautiful Venetian woman glimpsed on the quay makes him give up his plan of exile for a while?
