Plot synopsis
The film Pegtymel (name of a river that flows into the Chukchi Sea), shot in the summer and autumn of 1998 and 1999, is devoted to the daily and ritual life of Chukchi reindeer herders on the coast of the Chukchi Peninsula. This life echoes the stories of grandfather Natalko and the very old drawings made on the rocks of the Pegtymel River. The camera transmits the dialogue between the symbols of ancient times and living traditions, between people and nature.
