The action of the film takes place in modern Kazakhstan. The plot centers on a twelve-year-old girl Malika, whose life revolves around her mother Roza: she is both her friend and support for the girl. But their close relationship is tested when Roza decides to remarry. According to Islamic tradition, Malika must leave her mother's house and move in with her father. The girl faces an insoluble dilemma: to destroy this new marriage and preserve her usual life or to sacrifice her own happiness for the sake of her mother's happiness.
