In a poor Estonian logging village, Minna’s family lives in constant poverty. To help her parents, the young woman agrees to marry the wealthy widower Olli. But on the eve of the wedding, she happens to meet the accordionist Axel in the forest, and the lovers decide their fate in an instant. He is a dreamer, a frivolous and weak man, and the entire burden of family responsibilities falls mainly on Minna’s shoulders.
