This is a film that is both funny and tragic, exploring what it’s like to cope with the death of a loved one. The protagonist, Tolya – who has just started university – is faced with his mother’s death from cancer and unexpectedly finds himself responsible for organising the funeral: he obtains the death certificate, chooses a coffin and a plot in the cemetery, rings relatives and meets his father, who had long since disappeared from his life. For Tolya, irony becomes the only way to cope, which is why the characters and the world around him turn into grotesque caricatures of themselves: a nurse-turned-barman, a sinister cross-seller and an army of ninjas. But behind every comical detail lies genuine pain.
