Burdened with taxes, Ivan Didoukh has toiled his entire life. Instead of being a peasant stupefied by alcohol and work on a rocky land where the law of silence and summary justice reign, he prefers, for himself and his sons, the destiny of an immigrant who will dig his grave in Canada. To raise the money needed for the trip, he sells everything he owns. Robbed by a thief, he decides to kill him.
