The popular citizens' forum "Pilorama" is held in a former gulag camp "Perm 36" now a museum of the history of political repression, unique in Russia. The forum was named so because it is held on the site of the sawmill where political prisoners worked. "Pilorama" is an annual gathering of human rights defenders and ordinary freedom-loving people. Someone called this forum "Island of Freedom" and thus its participants and their guests became "islanders".
