Albania 1960s, city of Gjirokastër. Katia, a graduate of the Faculty of Arts of Moscow University, marries a young Albanian historian she met in Moscow. Shortly after she speaks with dictator Enver Hodja at a painting exhibition, her husband is arrested on a trumped-up charge, tried for espionage and shot. Then the heroine is imprisoned and the prison guard happens to be her best friend.
