Plot synopsis
The Riposte is the fourth production by Russian filmmaker Tourjansky for the French production company Albatros. This fictional drama, full of unexpected situations, tells the story of the beautiful Alpha (Nathalie Lissenko), who works as a vaulting horsewoman in a circus owned by Justo Pinelli (Bartkevitch). After making a mistake during a vaulting act, Pinelli abruptly fires her from the circus. Alone in the world and driven by despair, Alpha consults the lists of the draw for a prize that her late brother had entrusted to her. Thanks to her friend and colleague Ali (Anne de La Croix), she realizes that the lottery ticket that her brother had entrusted to her before he tragically died is a winner. She then changes her identity to become the brilliant and extremely wealthy Diane D’Avremont and lives with Ali, whom she considers her mother. During a vacation at the seaside, she falls madly in love with the elegant Pablo Soriano (Jean Angelo), who introduces himself as a very rich man from South America. They both get married and live very happily, until the day Pinelli finds Alpha's trail, and comes to blackmail her, threatening to publicly reveal her real identity. Pablo, who knows nothing about his wife's past, overhears an exchange between her and Pinelli. Furious, he leaves her, leaving her a simple farewell letter. As the film progresses, we discover that Pablo is not really who he claims to be, and that he is using Pinelli in order to divorce his wife...
