Plot synopsis
Contemporary interpretation of a well-known story (1)
The young animator of a children's center, Liosh Proshkin, - lively and sparkling with life - turns out to be the double of a dangerous thief and murderer Smiley (so nicknamed because of his habit of smiling when he kills). Smiley steals from the museum of Saint Petersburg a national symbol of Kazakhstan: a suit of armor of the Golden Horde. A young and pretty police lieutenant Irina Slavina arrests Troshkin and, by virtue of "contemporary" police methods, forces him to help in the investigation. He has no choice, otherwise he will be considered the real criminal. Thus Proshkin ends up in Egypt, where two of Smiley's accomplices - the young cheerful rascal Mukha and the dark bandit Shatoun - work. Then begins a series of crazy adventures for the prisoner: escape under the cover of a sandstorm, truck racing, disguise under women's veils. Trying to get out of such a situation, Proshkin suddenly understands that from this irresponsible stupidity can emerge a human being, on whom the freedom and lives of others depend. But when the real Smiley reappears, Proshkin is driven to accomplish a real feat in order to save, in the new year, both himself, and Smiley, and his new friends. And above all, to find love.
